Buzzed at Royal Gorge

A couple weeks back, while Lisa's parents were in town, we went down to Canon City to ride the scenic Royal Gorge railroad. It's a full size train that runs along the banks of the Arkansas River. It culminates as it goes under the famous Royal Gorge suspension bridge.
This bridge is the highest suspension bridge in the world at just over 1000 feet - it was built in 1929 for the bargain basement price of $350,000.

The scenerio was beautiful and the kids loved the open air rail cars and watching the rafters make their way down the river.

There was even a wacko helicopter tour pilot that would dive all the way into the canyon, buzz the train then pull straight up just before hitting the oncoming canyon wall.

We'll go on that ride next time!!

Jack's First Day At School

I couldn't let Jack's first day of pre-school go unannounced. As you can see he's quite excited about school. (He almost got on Kailee and Ben's bus while waiting at their busstop once.)

He loves to where his backpack and (pretend) to be like his older brother and sister.

He goes MWF afternoons at a nearby Christian pre-school where he learns about his alphabet, patterns and, of course, Jesus. He'll have a another year of pre-school before kindergarten starts.

Jack also attends a speech class for late developers. Speech takes place separately, twice a week in both a group and individual setting - about 2.5 hours per week. He's made marvelous progress, and can articulate, "I don't know!" better than anyone in the family.

Way to go Jack!

First Day of School

Today, was the first day of school for the Kailee and Ben. They visited their school yesterday and got to meet their teachers and pick out their desks. I didn't get to go, but I hear the school is beautiful and they love their teachers.

Right after the bus came Lisa, Jack and I bolted up to Denver so Lisa could catch her flight to Minneapolis. She will be attending a 4 day conference for Tastefully Simple. So, in the meantime, here at home it will be anything goes and lots of fast food!!! Just kidding (mostly).

Here are some pics at the busstop:

Some Pics from the Front Porch

Here are some quick snapshots taken this evening with my new Sony digital SLR (birthday gift) camera. All these pics were taken within 200 yards of my front porch.

P.S. If you get an email notification of this posting, you may not be able to see the slide show. In that case, use the link to go to the blog page.

My first opinion post...

A very funny from Paris. Most funny is that she implicitly endorses McCain's energy plan not Obama's - I wonder if she realizes that?

Move In Update

Ok, I know it's been a little while but we've been, well, busy! Our movers unpacked the stuff we hadn't seen for three months on the 16th - the morning after we arrived. Since then, we've been living in a sea of boxes. It is, however, getting much better.

The first floor is in pretty good shape. The kitchen is set and the family room is livable. The study is a complete wreck. We've downsized our furniture in there and don't have the storage we once had. That just means we have to throw away the junk we once kept at our finger tips.

We bought new furniture for the dining room as well as for the boys and Kailee's bedrooms. It arrives tomorrow, so all their stuff is laid out everywhere upstairs to make room for the delivery. They are very excited about getting new bedrooms. Kailee has chosen a retro-like them with large polka dots in pink, brown and tans. The boys are going with a outdoor rustic look with elk, bear and moose figures. Ben wants a mounted deer head on his wall. Actually, I think it would look pretty cool!! - we'll see.

Tonight we went to a local shopping area where they show movies outside on a large inflated screen in the parking lot. It was pretty cool. Everybody hangs out on lawn chairs and blankets and watched Shrek 3 just after the sun set behind the Rockies in front of us. Everyone had fun, we actually went with our new next door neighbors.

Tuesday we'll be going to see the local minor league baseball team - the SkySox. More to come on that...
